I don't have any Apple products, but members with iPhones and iPads tell me that they can see the names of deceased non-member spouses in the Member Tools app.
Since I am the ward clerk, I can see everything on the Membership Information tab using my Android phone. My wife cannot see the names of deceased non-member spouses in the Android Member Tools app on her phone.
Is this a known difference between the two versions of Member Tools?

How long ago was the death recorded? It might take some time to ripple though the servers.
Of course, we're assuming that they've synced some time since.

Re: Deceased, Nonmember Spouse
The wife was baptized two weeks ago, and the mission office created her membership record this week. I didn't know her record had been created until someone told me today.

Re: Deceased, Nonmember Spouse
We are now seeing the deceased nonmember husband listed in the directory on both iOS and Android versions of the Member Tools app, so I have submitted a bug report through the app.
One thing that confuses the app is that the member wife kept her maiden name. So the app lists the deceased nonmember husband using the member wife's maiden name in the directory. Does this sound like an unanticipated edge case to you?
Example:
Wife's maiden name: White, Susan Alice
Husband's name: Black, John David (deceased nonmember)
The Member Tools app lists them in the directory as "White, John David & Susan Alice"
I would call that a bug.

What's the "Household" name? I think Tools tends to pull the last name from that, not the individual last name(s). At least in list view.drepouille wrote:The Member Tools app lists them in the directory as "White, John David & Susan Alice"
Since she's the surviving member and now a household of one, I'd expect the Household name to be the same as her last name.
As far as I know, the church systems doesn't really deal well with different last names. I suppose you could enter "White-Black" (or "Black-White") as the Household. The individual names are supposed to match their legal names, but I don't think there is any such restriction on the Household name.

Re: Deceased, Nonmember Spouse
Since the nonmember husband died two years before the wife was baptized, he should not be listed on any directory. The clerk and the bishop should be the only ward members who can see his name, and only on her membership record.

It's probably something about the way the mission entered it.drepouille wrote:Since the nonmember husband died two years before the wife was baptized, he should not be listed on any directory.
You may have to get support involved. I'm sure if deceased non-member spouses regularly showed up on lists, we'd have heard about it.
But notating the name of a deceased prior spouse at baptism is a great corner case bug you might have stumbled upon.

I called the GSC a couple hours ago. They said everything looked fine on the membership record -- and they don't support the Member Tools app.
