Church Webcast - High Bandwidth Encode

Post by bartj »

The following message was posted in the webcast event manager portal regarding a recent update to the system:

The webcast system now supports encode rates up to 4.5Mbps by default. There is no need to enable the high bandwidth encode toggle for Zoom meetings or other high bandwidth events.

IMPORTANT: Extensive testing should be completed if a local unit is considering increasing the encode rate. Increasing the encode rate at buildings that do not have sufficient bandwidth will result in a failed event.

I'll have to try some tests at work, but I doubt if a higher encode rate will do much to improve the quality of the received image. I find it tends to look heavily compressed. Most distracting is the posterization in the skin tones.
