Access Privileges for Newly Called Ward Leaders

#1

Post by marcusray »

A new RS Presidency was sustained in our ward last Sunday. As the Ward Clerk, I recorded the changes to the RS organization in LCR early the next morning, Monday. It took until the next day for the RS President to get her access privileges to LCR and LDS Tools features. It took two days for the Counselors to get their access to LCR and LDS Tools features. Three days later, Thursday afternoon, and the RS Secretary is still without access privileges. Any ideas to explain the problem with these delays and missing access privileges for the Secretary?

We generally advise waiting 24 hours for the rights to kick in.

Check the following:
  • The secretary is recorded as a standard position (not custom)
  • The MRN on the Church Account that the secretary is using matches the MRN of the person you've recorded. (I've seen members using their spouse's account because "it sees more". It's also not unheard of for someone to be using the wrong MRN - or the wrong sister has been recorded.)
  • Check how the Secretary is trying to access. If she has another calling that grants access to LCR (Ward communication specialist?), make her aware of a LCR drop down selection that determines which "hat" she's wearing at the time. You can be one calling or another, the rights don't merge.

As I explained in my first post, the delay in the access privileges was much longer than 24 hours. I have since been informed that the new Secretary's access privileges were finally activated. In addressing the possibilities you mentioned, I can affirm that the secretary was recorded as a standard position. The member is still holding a calling as a Sunday School Teacher. I'll make her aware of the LCR drop down menu to select which "hat" she's wearing when she goes to look in LCR. I don't know if the 2nd possibility you mentioned played a role in the problem, but I doubt it, as her husband would have less privileges than her.

Thanks for your response. I was glad to get your assistance.

Do you have any insight as to why, when I selected the Contact Us option under the Help tab, hoping to get some help on the above issue, I got a message in a new window that said,
"Logout succeeded

This is the first I've heard about it taking longer than 24 hours. That seems strange.

No idea why "Contact Us" would trigger a logout. Maybe someone else has some ideas.

I just communicated with the Sister called to the RS Secretary position. She has confessed to logging into the system under her husband's name. Sorry to have bothered you in chasing a phantom problem.

Incidentally, I tried to find the "LCR drop down menu to select which "hat" [the member] is wearing". I could not find it.

Ok, but we still seem to have some delay for the counselors. Maybe one of our friendly neighborhood developers can comment on that.

From what I've been told, it's not there unless you have more than one calling that gives you access to LCR.

That is correct. Sunday School Teacher is not a calling with LCR access, so there would not be a drop down menu in her case.

I can confirm the drop-down menu apparently only shows if one has two callings with different rights in LCR. I am a counselor in the EQ Presidency and also the Ward Family History Leader and I did not have the drop-down until after the Family History leader calling was recorded.
It is a yellow box just to the left of your stake and ward/branch information (below the grey bar).

I believe LCR does some caching of your permissions, so the more frequently you try the longer it takes for the cache to clear and get the updated info.

I am also getting Logged out when accessing "Contact us". I was thinking that maybe it was because it is a Sunday and noone is there to help/support?

On a slightly separate topic....
Who creates the Organization level hierarchy and how to you add/remove/update?
For example my wards Activity days is broken into 3 Filtered names with varying results (as indicated):
  • -Primary Activities - Boys (in LCR I CANNOT change filter name and members tab pulls in all boys 8-11)
-Activity Days 10/11 (in CLR I CAN Change filter name and members tab pulls in all girls 8-11)
-Activity Days 8/9 (in LCR I CAN change filter name and members tab pull in NOONE)
I think our ward created two activity day girls to divide the members up, but if the filter settings is pulling noone under Members tab I question why it exists (and I see no way to edit the filter settings on my side other than the name). I also wonder why there is not a default/locked "Primary Activities - Girls" filter.

Also in LDS Tools, My "Nursery Leader" (Standard Calling) cannot access "All Nursery Members" (Organizations>Primary>Nursery>All Nursery Members) in order to see who she is responsible for and families she needs to contact. Who/what sets that permission, and is it possible to get that functioning?
