Starting Missionary Paperwork without a Bishop

Post by davemartineau »

Our Bishop passed away about a month ago. He had COVID-19 for the three months prior. We do not know when we will have a new Bishop. There is a Young Woman in our Ward who would like to begin the paperwork to serve a mission. Is there a way for one of the counselors to allow her access to begin the paperwork?

There are some things a counselor can't do. This may be one of them.

Ideally, the stake will call a new bishop. But until then, there's probably a way to call an "Acting Ward Leader". (Yes, it's a real calling.)

A counselor cannot do this.

The stake president should have been designated the acting unit leader for your ward. He or the stake clerk needs to contact the Global Services Department and have them update the unit leader information to reflect the current situation. Once that is done, he might be able to start the application for her. If not, the GSD can work with the Missionary Department to get things rolling.
