Listing children in household of separated parents

Is there a way in LCR or MLS to list children under households of separated parents in the same ward?

I believe they must be listed in one household or the other. I don't they can be listed in both. If the separated parents are in different wards, the children can be listed as "out-of-unit" members on the household where they don't normally reside.
