Abbreviations meanings

While studying, I have come across a couple abbreviations where the meaning is not defined.... or at least I could not locate a definition.

example: (DNW, 24 Aug. 1854, 1) and (DBY, 174). The first, I think, is Deseret News and its publication date, .... The latter, I think, is the diary of Brigham Young ... but I would like to know for sure...

Any help in what the terms 'dnw' and 'dby' means would be appreciated...
