Find My Device for Missionary Phones

Post by timalvord »

I don't know if anyone from the missionary office will read this. But I also don't know where else to post it. Could it be possible for the owners that develop the lockdown software for missionary phones to allow any kind of find my device software? Google has a solution that is usually turned on automatically for Android phones, but it is turned off with the church's missionary software and missionaries cannot enable it. There's an app in the Google Play Store called "Find my Device" that works very well and does nothing else but help people find their phones. Of course, the church's missionary software blocks missionaries from downloading this software. Since all missionary phones are Samsung phones. Samsung also offers a find my device tool, but again the missionary software blocks this.

My daughter recently lost her phone. And since she is an SLT the phone even has a SIM card in it. What could have been a 2 minute get on the find my device app and locate it, turned into an all-day affair to retrace steps to try and find it. She never did. It was while she was being transferred so she had to leave the city and the phone. This is a $500 loss that is SO unnecessary. Can the church's missionary software please allow some kind of find device software? It's a no-brainer. Certainly, my daughter is not the only one to lose a phone or will be in the future. And since their whole lives are on their phones, why not help missionaries here?

Doubtful. The forum is primarily user-to-user support.

I'd suggest talking to the mission president. He would be in a far better position to advocate for a change in policy.
