I have a question about the rules around reprinting the new digital temple recommend. I'm in a Stake Presidency. Since covid we have been able to interview people over video conferencing (FaceTime, DUO, Zoom, etc.). I did this yesterday and activated the recommend. I printed the recommend at my home and failed to bring it today - Sunday. The person came to the Stake to get it, and the reprint option was disabled. We had to mark it damaged or lost. When we did that the recommend just disappeared. We had the Bishop resubmit it to the Stake, we activated from the Stake, then reprinted. Does anyone know the rules around reprinting? Why was it disabled to reprint the day after printing one?

Hi, President Smoot! From what I've read on the new system, I think the stake can reprint the recommend on the same day, but the ward can reprint the recommend at any time. I don't know the reason why, but hopefully it will offload some of the work at the stake level.

The best reference I'm aware of is found here: Help Center: Printing Recommend. In the help doc, the wording might be a bit confusing when it talks about printing and reprinting. The Stake is able to print and/or reprint a recommend only on the day it was issued. The ward/branch can print and/or reprint the recommend at any point (with some caveats).
So for your scenario where you printed the same day but misplaced the copy, what you did is fine if the member wanted to get it right there and then. But if you had sent them to their Bishop/Clerk, they should have been able to re-print it out from their account, since wards/branches can do this even after the reprint option is disabled at the Stake level. Perhaps others have more insight to correct/clarify these statements of mine...

Members can't print recommends. Only the ward or stake.
