Family Scripture Study Tool

Post by mikelantz »

Update: Last year I decided to create my own Family Scripture Online Database so that all our family members could: 1) See my commentary on all the New Testament Scriptures and 2) Allow family members to share their poignant comments for all family members to review and comment on, if so desired. I created this online database by using Zoho Creator (I had to buy a license for this use) and then “Published” the database online for everyone’s access and use.

I have decided for this coming year to “Publish” the Book of Mormon for the same purposes. This time, however\, I would like to use some free tools (MariaDB for example) and share the database via my Synology Server. I have some experience with MariaDB, but was wondering if anyone would like to give me some help in making this available for Family use across the Church? The fun part of this idea is that as our grandchildren get older (and get parental permission to access the database) I simply just have to add an additional column to allow for their comments.

Any thoughts/ideas/creativity you may wish to share? Hope one day that the Church will make this feature (kinda like “Family Groups” in FamilySearch) available to members.

Thanks so much.

Decided to use Google sheets for my Family Scripture Study Tool. I have put the entire Book of Mormon in a Google Sheet and then created sub-folders for each of the 15 books. I plan on having a Zoom meeting sometime this year to introduce this tool to the family and invite all those of age (and agreed to by their parents) to have their own individual column for their verse comments. I plan on freezing the top row and the first two columns so that users (and commenters) will be able to read and then record their feelings. Once the year is complete I will be able to publish the Sheet for future family reference and testimony building.
