Aaronic Priesthood Ordination Date is Incorrect

Post by fam6forever »

Hello,

I'm a Bishop. The Deacon ordination date for one of our Young Men is incorrect. Are there step by step instructions for where/how to fix it?

Thanks

Not much that I was able to find in the handbook. Handbook chapter 33 is about Records and Reports. Section 33.6 is about Membership Records. Section 33.6.17 is titled Recording and Correcting Ordinance Information, but it says only, "See chapter 18." Chapter 18 describes how ordinances are done. It also instructs to record ordinance information accurately.

Based on my study and experience in a few clerking callings (currently assistant ward clerk, membership), I understand the first step is for the Bishop to determine the correct date using whatever means are available and the Bishop deems necessary and sufficient. I was not able to find a specific reference, but I have recently read that in some cases if it is not possible to determine whether an ordinance was done (and perhaps when/where/etc.) that ordinance may need to be done again.

Once the Bishop has decided what date is correct, he can instruct the clerk (ward clerk or assistant) to make the change in LCR. If the clerk has difficulties, he can ask the stake clerk, because training ward clerks is part of the stake clerk's calling. It appears it's fairly easy in LCR:

Bring up the Member Information page for the member in question.

Click on the Ordinances tab.

Click on the pencil icon on the line for the ordination in question.

Click on the pencil icon at the top of the table of Ordinance Information.

Change the information.

Click the Continue button.

There's probably a confirmation page with a Save button.

Thank you for your response. Much appreciated. When I click on the ordinances tab for the YM on LCR I see a message "Aaronic Priesthood offices are not displayed for members holding the Melchizedek Priesthood." I will try calling support on Monday.

Perhaps you were referring to this section of the Handbook: GHB 38.2.6 Validating or Ratifying Ordinances, which describes the process for resolving issues with ordinance records.
When I click on the ordinances tab for the YM on LCR I see a message "Aaronic Priesthood offices are not displayed for members holding the Melchizedek Priesthood."
If the YM has already been ordained an Elder, then indeed you'll see this message. And for Aaronic Priesthood holders, it only displays the most-recent A.P. office. So if you're looking to update a previous A.P. ordination, calling SLC is probably the only recourse.
