Household number reappearing in Spouse's Contact

Post by kellymab »

First off, I've already reported this issue in the app feedback.

Has anyone else had this problem with their phones? There are two couples in my ward that I have contact information saved in my phone from the tools app. I keep trying to contact spouse 1 (going into their contact selecting their number). Somehow it switches the number used to the spouse 2's number.

Even when I delete the household number (spouse 1) in spouse 2's contact information, the next time I text spouse 1, it sends the text to spouse 2 because spouse 1's number somehow shows back up in spouse 2's contact card. My phone then changes the phone number used to spouse 2's preferred contact number.

I think this is because of how the tools app no longer asks you what information you want to download for a contact and saves everything including the household number which is often Spouse 1's cell phone number.

This is getting really frustrating for me as it happens with two different families in the ward. Both couples are understanding of the situation, but it's annoying because one of the couples, the husband is in the bishhopric and it fouls up trying organize anything with the bishopric in a group chat. I will see the bishopric group chat, respond to it, then it sends the message to a different group chat with the bishop, 1C and 2C's wife. I'm the YWP in my ward.

The Member Tools app does indeed do that. It dumps everything it has available.

The workaround then is to go into your actual phone contacts and make the necessary changes there. Make sure the correct number is the primary one, etc, so that your phone will know what to do when you text or call.

For me, putting someone from Tools into my phone Contacts is a two-step process, dump and clean. It does still beat manually copying over the information.

I've tried to do that, but the number keeps coming back into the contact. I've gone into both gmail and windows to delete the extra number, and they still show up.

This is an absolute pain in the neck. I miss the days when the tools app let you choose what information you wanted to download from the app.

I would love it if the Church implemented a Global Address List for the Church directory, using LDAP, CardDAV, or something similar. This would allow contacts apps (Apple Contacts, Outlook, etc.) to natively sync read-only contacts from your ward or stake, authenticated to the current user.

In the meantime, given the current state of things, I would recommend only adding people to your contacts that you contact often, adding them manually to only include the info you want, and for people you don't contact all the time, just use the email, text, or phone buttons in Member Tools.

Your phone is trying so much to help you [sigh]. When this last happened to me, the phone number was in two contacts, both a husband and a wife. Check both contacts and leave only one phone number in each one.

And if your phone is pulling numbers back in on its own, then I am afraid you are also on your own. I would not know what to do about that one.

It is a connected world, for better or worse.
