Adding member groups' meetingplace in meetinghouse locator

Post by morrisonl »

I'm Elder Morrison, secretary in the offices of the mexico veracruz mission. in our mission we have 5 member groups - groups of saints who meet for church, sacrament meeting, have missionaries, etc. however, because they are smaller and dont meet in a church-constructed meetinghouse their locations, meeting times, information, etc. does not showup on the meetinghouse locator tool. can i suggest that these locations be added? not just for our mission of course, but for member groups across the whole world? who can i get in touch with to add these places?
locations in this mission:

santiago tuxtla, veracruz
alvarado, veracruz
hueyapan de ocampo, veracruz
tlacojalpan, veracruz
coscomatepec, veracruz

may god bless you :)

The Tech Forum is primarily user-to-user support. We have no say in decisions.

I think your best chance is to ask your mission president to take it up with his presiding authority. That will give the request more priesthood power to get in front of the product managers.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Agreed about having the Mission President take the lead on this. Handbook 37.7 details Groups, and the Mission or Stake President is the one that works with the Area Presidency to propose creating a Group. Part of that discussion (or discussion about existing groups), could include how to let others find out where these groups meet for their worship services.

In our Area, the Church is pushing to create Spanish-language groups where appropriate. So this is also an applicable question for us, given that Spanish-speaking people using the Meetinghouse Locator won't see any evidence of those group Church meetings in their language, unless there's an official Spanish-language Branch around. Might be a good question to ask our local Mission President, I usually bump into him every couple of months...

This has been discussed previously on the forum. Some church employees who frequent the forum even researched and provided some detail on the problem (i.e., groups don't have unit numbers). Read this response from jonesrk: viewtopic.php?p=201594&hilit=groups#p201293

The only way we're likely to see a change in this is for mission presidents and stake presidents to talk to their priesthood leaders about the problem. Input from those individuals carries a lot more weight than any of us submitting a "Feedback" on it. I would give the mission president / stake president the link I posted above, since it's from a church employee who understands the issue. The mission president / stake president and the priesthood leader for those individuals may not be technical and may not know what to do with that input, and therefore it may not make any progress. But with the above information, that General Authority at least has a point of contact with a church employee who understands the situation and could probably help direct the General Authority on how to navigate "the system" to get that feedback to the ears of the decision makers.
