The purpose of a profile photo on Tools

Post by cltwlltd »

Hello all!
I’m a ward assistant clerk and will be giving a short presentation on how to utilize the Tools app this coming Sunday (during the second hour of the 5th Sunday)

To be short, my question is this: How can I motivate my ward members to upload their profile photo on their own?

One of the tasks I was given by the Bishop was to have all members' profile photos updated.
I would like all active members to upload their profile photo to the system and I can show them how to do it step by step.

But my question is, why should members even bother? Leaders can benefit from those photos because it helps match names with faces. But that’s about it. Right? How can doing so benefit the majority of the members who don't have any leadership callings?

Members will benefit for the same reason. They will also be able to get to know members of their ward with the aid of photos.

An added benefit is that the photo in Member Tools is used as part of the electronic temple recommend in those areas where the pilot program is in progress.

I moved into a new ward about a year ago and I often find myself wishing for photos as I try to connect names and faces. For me talking with people I don't know isn't very easy and being able to connect the names and faces of people helps me overcome that to a degree.

Please be sensitive to the fact that not everyone wants their photo in the app. While for most it's simply a preference, for others due to the nature if the their job, it's a security concern.

Thank you all for sharing your perspectives.
I learned I need to be more sensitive and mindful of personal information. Also I see that photos help all members regardless of your calling!

Feel free to leave more comments about your good/bad experiences with the profile photos!

It also helps the full-time missionaries get acquainted with ward members' names and faces, as it shows in their apps as well.
