Service Missionary Specialist Permission to View the SMMS

Post by ckmcdonald »

Our stake has called a couple to serve as Service Missionary Specialists. They work under to our Area Service Missionary Coordinator. As stake clerk I have been asked to set this couple up with view-only access to the Service Mission Management System (SMMS). In the SMMS there appears to be access permission granting based on standard calling title, as is common with the Church system. It appears, and I'm guessing a bit on this one, that the standard calling title SMMS expects to see for stake Service Missionary Specialist's is just that "Service Missionary Specialist". However, this calling title (or anything similar) does not appear in LCR - at least that I can find. Does anyone know how granting permission to view SMMS is accomplished?

I have called (6 times) various departments at CHQ and have only found a number of others that don't know how either. I have learned that it is expected, possible and has been done, but, no one seems to know how it's accomplished.

Thanks

Thumbing though section 24.7 - Service Missions, I see some involvement by the Mission President.

Under 24.2.2 - Young Service Missionaries. "Service missionaries serve locally under the direction of a mission president"

Since you're not seeing anything about recording this "calling" at the stake level, I'm going to take a guess that it's someone in the Mission Office that records them. I'd look at how this mission call was extended. That might contain a clue as to what hands process this.

Looking at all the position types in CDOL (not just those in LCR) the closest I could find is "Area Service Mission Specialist". If that's what it should be it will have to be the mission or someone at headquarters (likely at the mission's or calling issuer's request) that records it.

Followup - to share how we solved this problem in our stake.
I tried creating and using the Custom calling name "Service Missionary Specialist" as it appears SMMS expects. I didn't expect that to work and it didn't. I next changed the Role assigned to the Calling "Service Missionary Specialist" in SMMS to "Stake/District/Mission Unit Support" as suggested by SMO department at CHQ. That didn't work either. The SMO department then suggested that we add those to be given access by church login username. SMMS will not allow us to do that but we passed the usernames to SMO and they added them. That worked. There might be or at least should be an easier way than this but working with CHQ we were not able to find one.
