LDS Tools

My Lds tools is not allowing me to synchronize, what could be the problem or it's not working at all?

To determine possible issues we will need to know the phone OS version as well as the version of member tools you are using

If Member Tools will not sync or open make sure you are running the latest version. Currently that is version 5.1. Follow these links for the steps on updating on Android or iOS/iPadOS. Make sure your device operating system will support Member Tools version 5.1. The minimum device operating system necessary to run Member Tools 5.1 for iOS/iPadOS is 16.0 or newer and for Android is 8.0 or newer. Follow these links for the steps on updating the operating system on Android or iOS/iPadOS.

Older versions of Member Tools may not sync or update data due to security upgrades/updates implemented on the data servers necessary for the security upgrades/updates in the newer Member Tools. While the older versions of Member Tools are all that is available for your device, they will not be able to connect to the servers because of the security upgrades/updates.

You will need to work with your branch clerk to get your records moved into your ward.

It appears that the members tools app does not sync after the initial installation. What I have experienced in the last month is as follows:

1. App will not sync
2. De-install, and re-install version 5.1 from the Google App store.
3. Sign-in and sync. Tools apps syncs.
4. Test sync a couple of times -- it works
5. Close out of the app and wait one or two days
6. Attempt to sync and sync fails. Attempt several times - sync fails.
7. Return to step 2 and the process continues all over again.

I have done this three times in the past month. Not sure if this is what others are experiencing. I have version 5.1 of the app. I am an Android phone - Android version 10.

Just to be clear - what exactly happens when the sync fails? Is it an error message? And if so, what does the error message say? Or does it seem to work, but there is missing data that isn't updated?

Another option is trying the Data Refresh. When the sync fails, does a data refresh work?

Thanks for the reply.

When you try to manually sync - it just says LAST SYNC: FAILED. And each successfully attempt - exact same message.

With respect to REFRESH DATA - the screen comes up with the Church icon on the page - and four circles with a check mark dynamically updating. After the last circle is checked, it is done. So, it appears to work. HOWEVER, I made changes on LDS.ORG and try to refresh data several times - and the changes were NOT reflected on the phone app. In other words. refresh data appears to work -- but it does NOT.

Lastly, I de-installed the app, then reinstalled and reinitialized the app on the phone -- and it is up to date. Just as I expected. But any subsequent sync or update -- does not work -- just as described previously.

Android version 10 on Android Phone.

I know that some Church systems have a delay in information propagating through the entire database. So it might be that there's a waiting period required before changes made via the web interface, are reflected in what the Tools app will see when trying to sync (or refresh). Perhaps you could try refreshing data again in a couple of days, and see if that successfully updates with the correct info.

Regarding the continuing "Last Sync Failed" error, I know there's other Forum members who have better understanding of the ways these things work -- although since we're all regular Church members like yourself, we're all on the outside and just guessing. Although some guesses are pretty solid deductions... ;)
