LCR Test Environment

Post by Hilohi »

Just thinking out loud here as I know this isn't a space where suggestions are taken into account by the Church, but I think it would be great to have a test environment for LCR where leaders, especially ward clerks, could practice the various functions in LCR without making permanent changes.

In our ward, most of our members aren't tech savvy. Furthermore, there are some functions in LCR that we do once in a blue moon in our ward. So if I were to teach our ward clerk how to, for example, create a record, by the time he'd have to do it again, he'd have forgotten how to do it. Now, if there were an LCR test environment, our ward clerk could regularly practice those functions and ultimately know how to do those functions when actually needed. It would be even better to have guided tutorials for each function. For example, if a clerk wanted to learn or brush up on how to create a record, he could choose the corresponding tutorial and he would be guided in completing that function. There could even be a menu section for tutorials in LCR so they'd be easy to find.

I think that would be ideal. Although as anyone who's been involved in documentation knows, once you create a tutorial, it's a certainty that fairly soon the UI will change and make that help doc obsolete ;) And given the Church's limited (from what we understand) support resources, it may be that while this is something the Church teams would love to do, it's not high enough on the priority list they are given by their "higher-ups", and would be challenging for them to maintain up-to-date over time.
