Ministering assignment issues

Post by dsherril »

I'm trying to help my RS Secretary modify ministering assignments. She needs to assign 2 sisters with their daughters (they are YW age). Even when I, as clerk, try to make these changes, I get

Code: Select all

You are not authorized to add this ministering assignment
Why? And how do I get around it?

Thank you for any help!

A YW can't be a minister until the year she turns 14 (21.2.2)

Also, "In some cases, youth may be assigned as a third member of a ministering companionship." (also 21.2.2) given the wording, I doubt if it will let you assign a foursome.

Does that shed any light?

Maybe. Both YW turn 14 this year. But their birthdays have not happened yet. Perchance is the check in the YW's birthday, rather than the year she turns 14?

General Handbook, 21.2.2, states; "A young woman may serve as a ministering companion to a Relief Society sister when the young woman is willing and able. She may begin serving in the year she turns 14." Programming for LCR and Member Tools closely follow the General Handbook.

The order in which a ministering companionship is created in LCR is important. A Relief Society companionship must have one or two RS sisters before the young woman can be added. There can be no more than one young woman in the companionship. A companionship is limited to three ministering sisters.

When the proper procedures for creating/editing a ministering companionship are followed and the system gives an error message, such as the one in the OP, there may be more going on than procedural error. In this case the clerk can contact the Global Services Department (GSD) for assistance.

I thought this was the Tech Wiki, which is the reason I posted my question. But I will try the Help Center. Thank you for your suggestion. The weird thing is that I can assign YM that are currently 13, but turn 14 this year to minister with their fathers. I do not get the same error with YM that I do with YW.

The wiki is separate. It tends to be like help pages. This is the forum, where people can ask questions and discus things within bounds.

Curious you're seeing different things between the YW and YM. I'm not seeing any difference in the Handbook.

I assume you're a clerk. Just to make sure you're pairing daughter with mother, I'd check the daughter's membership record and make sure the mother is correctly recorded there and they're in the same household. Also make sure the daughter's record is "real" and not a "out-of-unit" record sometimes used for children of divorced parents. Also make sure the daughter is in the right YW class.
