Young women class secretary access to take attendance

Post by danbridger »

Does anyone know how to give access to a young women class secretary to take attendance? They are assigned the calling but do not have the option for attendance in lds tools like other leaders have.
Thanks

It's not configurable.

All you can do is:
- make sure the sister's calling is recorded as a standard position (not a custom position)
- that you've recorded the right sister
- the MRN on the church account the sister is using is correct.

Even then, you probably have to wait 24-48 hours for the change to ripple though the computer network.

It's also possible the sister might have to use the "Refresh Data" option found under "settings" as a normal sync doesn't always pick up changes.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

If you are talking about a young woman, called as a secretary in her class, I don't think she can take attendance digitally. The Access table doesn't list any access to LCR for youth class or quorum presidencies. If I'm correct, she will have to report attendance to the YW Secretary (adult) or a member of the YW Presidency for them to record it in LCR.

In our ward, the Membership Clerk passes out paper rolls to all the classes each week and then gathers them up afterward. The class/quorum secretary fills them out.

Looking in the Handbook, the wording in GHB 11.3.4.2 (YW Class Secretary) and GHB 10.4.2 (A.P. Quorum Secretary) is a bit different, although both are still a bit vague. The YW section states the class secretary should "keep track of attendance", while the AP section states the quorum secretary should "also help the ward clerk or a quorum adviser keep track of attendance". While the latter is a bit more clear, both sections can be easily understood to imply the youth secretary should (or at least could) be recording attendance in LCR.

As mentioned, youth do not have access to LCR. So it's a multi-step process of the youth secretary recording attendance outside of LCR, sharing that info with the corresponding youth leader, and that adult then entering it into LCR. It would be helpful if the Handbook was a bit more clear about youth secretaries and LCR.

As an aside, I think we often focus exclusively on the "recording of attendance" (at least that's common for me). But of equal importance is for somebody (aka the secretary) to "analyze the attendance". So even if youth secretaries don't enter anything into LCR, they could be keeping on eye on youth attendance patterns, and bring this up in class/quorum presidency meetings. This is a meaningful way to fulfill their responsibility to "keep track of attendance".
