Notification ribbon won't go away after double tapping for immersive mode

I noticed recently that the top notification bar of my phone won't go away when I double tap the scripture page I am on. It used to be that the scriptures would take up my entire screen when I double tap but now the top notification bar won't go away. Not only is it there but it also doesn't show notifications or time but rather a blank bar. I have tried force stopping the app, clearing cache, uninstalling/reinstalling but have not successfully removed this bar yet

Any ideas of why this bar might still be showing up or what I could try to fix it?
