I don't have experience with this, but I know other Forum members do. It would likely be helpful if you included your location, since it seems like there's different mechanisms in place for different countries and regions. So even for someone who interfaces with government notifications in their calling, might have a different experience than what's available in your location.

Where I am (Australia), the relevant state government department sends the person a message a few months before it expires so they can renew it.
If that doesn't happen where you are, could add it as something you do as part of your calling.
Once a week check the "expiring soon" report, and send a message to those members asking them to (where appropriate) start the renewal process (or prepare to start it).

The biggest problem we get isn't people not renewing, but members renewing it and not telling us they have renewed it.

While it would be nice to have the church remind you, you could put it in the calendar on your device as a reminder. At least that's an option that is within your control.
