Extensive study notes lost with the recent changes to the D&C headings - is there any way to get them back?

Discussions about the Notes and Journal tool on LDS.org. This includes the Study Toolbar as well as the scriptures and other content on LDS.org that is integrated with Notes and Journal.

Extensive study notes lost with the recent changes to the D&C headings - is there any way to get them back?

Post by christopherbross »

[cross post from Reddit]

In the Gospel Library app, I had highlights in the headings of the changed sections wherein I wrote a ton of notes, linked a bunch of stuff, etc. I assumed these would have been preserved somehow with the change but they're definitely gone. I feel terrible; there was so much work put into those notes.

Does anybody know if there's any way to get those back?

I'm also fully aware how silly it was not to have them backed up but I just trusted the computer people would do everything they could to keep stuff like that safe. Learned my lesson! lol As a side note, does anybody have a good system in backing up their study record in the Gospel Library? I used to download occasionally the stuff off the website but it didn't preserve everything properly so I stopped doing it ...

I'll also be reaching out to the developers, of course.

For some reason, I've also lost a lot more than just notes in the updated headings. I've lost notes in unrelated sections. This is a serious loss of hundreds of hours of study. As a teacher, the loss of this organized record is awful to me.

I would assume the database would still have the notes. It wouldn't make any sense to delete notes that are attached to a heading when that heading is replaced with a new heading. But, maybe they are orphaned now? Maybe there needs to be a way to access orphaned notes.

I had a similar thought. I downloaded the notes from the Church website but it doesn't show any orphaned notes or anything.

Were/are you signed in with your Church Account? Could you have switched to a new device without having signed in to sync the notes on your old device?

Excellent thought, thank you. No, I was signed in for certain and I only use one device for my study.
