Bishop Submittals

Post by drogefam »

Something I have always struggled with: What is the expected way for a bishop to submit an expense without approving it? It seems like there should be a way for a bishop to submit his own receipt without making it auto approve, thus coming up in the audit. Same goes for any bishopric member. Our work around is to send the receipt to another bishopric member to have them submit. It just would be nice to have some way to uncheck the box to approve but still get it into the pending "approve expenses."

Your workaround is the only way I know of. Another option is for the bishop to delegate purchases to others who can then submit for reimbursement. The bishop has enough on his hands already and the cases are likely very rare where someone else can't make the purchase for the ward/branch. When I served as clerk, I always volunteered to make the purchases for the bishop because he had things he couldn't delegate and this wasn't one of them.

Okay, thanks. It just seems like it would be an easy option to submit without approval. That would save a lot of hassle.

You could always send that as feedback in the finance system. Here on the forum, we're all just regular members and have ability to affect the church priorities with tech. Feedback is distributed to those who prioritize the developer's priorities and would be the ones to consider your request. Though, I suspect they are aware of this behavior.

Can the bishop do a payment request instead of submit an expense? It seems to work for me when I submit expenses so it doesn’t get automatically approved.

The bishop can submit a payment request in the Member Tools mobile app and it won't be automatically approved. But the Payment Request option isn't available to the Bishop in the LCR web interface so there is no way of doing the same in LCR.
