Meetinghouse Webcast Software feature request

Would it be possible to have an option to broadcast with stereo audio through the Meetinghouse Webcast Software for a future release?

The reason I ask, is that in our stake there are several units who have members that understand better when they can hear the meeting translated into spanish. If they are in the stake center, we have a transmitter and earphones for them, but if they are in an location that is receiving the webcast, it could be nice to have (for example) the left channel be english and the right channel be the spanish translation that is being provided by the translator in the stake center. Then the left channel could be piped into the overhead sound system and the right channel could be piped into a transmitter for their headphones.

This would free up the people at each unit who would otherwise be translating into spanish to give their full attention to the speaker and their message, rather than translating and would ensure that the translation is uniform in all the units.

Is this a big deal? Probably not. Would we use it? Not yet, we are still testing a proof of concept implementation, but it would be nice to have that option in the future.

So there is a way that you can do this now and here are the steps:

1 Copy an existing profile in the directory C:\program files\LDS Meetinghouse Webcast\Profiles\

2 Renamed the copied profile HighStereo.

3 double click the new profile it will open in the profile editor.

4 change your audio to stereo on the second tab.

5 save and close the profile.

6 select your new profile in the meetinghouse webcast software under other.


I have included 2 screen shots that show the editor and the new profile under other.

Thanks, I will have to try that. Right now, our limiting factor is the 1/384 DSL connection, so we will need to fix that before experimenting with this.

I was asked by the the stake president if we could simulcast spanish audio and I thought of exactly this solution, unfortunately though, we are using the webcast communicator. Is there a way to create a stereo broadcast from the communicator?

There was a (unsupported) way to do it with version 2 of the software (you changed a config file and set it to stereo rather than mono), but I doubt that there is a supported way to do it with the communicator box.
I wonder if there is a way to do it with version 3 of the software?

Well, I used this as an opportunity to plug up a monitor, mouse and keyboard to our webcast communicator (it's been calling my name for a while now) and poke around in the file system. Turns out that the default profiles are all mono, but once you select any custom profile of 350kbs or higher it is a stereo profile. I'm going to go test so I can have an answer for the stake president in the morning. Thanks!

This is exactly what we have done for our Stake Conferences. I generally use the 400kbs setting as it gives considerably better audio quality.

All of the version 3.0 modes are stereo.
