Web service access to map data

I'm one of the volunteers working on the LDS Tools app for iOS. I'd like to be able to grab and display several different kinds of map data; we've had many requests for features like "find the nearest meetinghouse to my current location" or "show me a map with placemarks for all of the people on custom list X."

Are there web services that I can hit from our app to get any of the data now visible in maps.lds.org? I don't need the actual map representations, just the underlying geocoded data. If not, are there any plans to produce such web services in the future?
