Moving Unmanned Switches article from MHTech to Tech Wiki.png

Meetinghouse firewalls have a limited number of local area network (LAN) ports that devices can be connected to. The number of available network ports can be increased by using a network switch. In most cases, facilities management groups are responsible for purchasing and installing network switches.

Prior to the rollout of the Meraki managed network switches, many meetinghouses were equipped with unmanaged switches like the Cisco SG110 pictured above. These and other unmanaged switches can still be used in conjunction with the new Meraki switches as long as the unmanaged switches are not connected directly to the firewall. Using both the managed and unmanaged switches together can provide more flexibility for the wired network and more room for any additional devices needed later on.

If an additional switch is needed, order the Meraki MS120-8FP or MS120-24P switch.
