We cannot print from the Chromebook to the printer connected via USB cable. It prints an error page.
We can print from other devices such as macbook or a windows laptop, but those are personal devices and are not always available. Is there a way to update the drivers? We trying removing the printer and reinstalling it, and the Chromebook is up to date as well.

Re: Cannot print from chromebook
What model printer? I think the church tends to buy Xerox brand printers (Lexmark in a FSC). But wards tend to have a habit of buying their own, which can't always be supported.
You could try the printer maker's support page to see if there's a driver for Chromebook.

Were you able to resolve this issue? I have a ward that is having the same issue printing from the Chromebook provided to the ward. They are using a Xerox printer that was provided by the church as well.

Re: Cannot print from chromebook
I just got a call from a ward clerk and Bishop about their printer, The model is a Xerox B215. They’re attempting to print checks. The printer prints one check then garbage. Then they tried to print pages from a website and the same thing occurred. In my opinion it appears to be a driver problem. That works indicate Google.djsdesigns wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 10:15 am Were you able to resolve this issue? They’ve already power cycled the printer multiple times. I didn’t print a bunch of pages when I installed the Chromebook.
It would be helpful if STSs had MLS access like we used to so we could troubleshoot without requiring the clerk’s presence.

Re: Cannot print from chromebook
The Xerox B215 printer having the issue was connected via USB. I fixed it by connecting it to the network. The clerk confirmed that it works for both checks and reports.
Connecting to the network causes IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) to be used. The USB driver appears to be generic or "braindead".
I hope this helps.
Edit: If you are connecting via Wi-Fi, you should have the STS reserve the printer's IP in the Meraki switch so you bypass the join/connection dialog. You won't have this issue if you hardwire the network connection. It was easy for me as there is an unmanaged network switch under the clerk's desk.

There were a couple of requests for advice in this thread. I was hoping to get some feedback regarding the solution that worked for me.

Re: Cannot print from chromebook
Of the eight Chomebooks I installed over the last two weekends, one of them absolutely refused to print via USB. After much fussing, I followed the online suggestion and just shut everything down, printer, Chromebook, everything.autryld wrote: Sun May 11, 2025 11:16 am The Xerox B215 printer having the issue was connected via USB. When we turned everything back on, it worked just like all the others, and that unit has not had a problem since.
It appears that restarting everything forced the Chromebook to find a suitable driver for the B215, where it had not done so before when the printer was first attached.
