Autosetup Failing? And inconsistent Instructions

Post by jgmontgo »

I am really struggling with this one because I simply don’t know what I don’t know. I am used to instructions being inaccurate or even incomplete.

I’ve run into a couple of issues.

First, the Provision account is created but no ChurchSupport account.

Second, none of the screen captures really match what I am seeing, especially at the end of the process.

I get to what seems to be the end of the process and there is no final reboot and an indication that the process is really far from complete. In fact this is what I am seeing.

Note that I ended up running the autosetup manually a couple of times after the initial execution, the last time with the ChurchSupport account created to see if that made a difference. This is the only reason that step is green in the image.

So it seems a bunch of stuff never completed, and I have no idea how incomplete it really is.

Any idea where I go from here? Am I really done? The Provision account is left as local admin and no password (I have it secured) but the unit account is also setup as an administrative account if I recall properly. I have two more computers to setup for now and would like to make sure all 3 are setup the way they need to be.

At this point I'd stop and contact Global Service Desk. When I last did the setup, it didn't quite follow the instructions, but it was straightforward. I had to select "Clerk Computer" as the role a couple of times.

I'm having the same issue. The screenshots didn't match, and the list was not complete, no final reboot. I left it overnight and came back and rebooted for windows updates. The unit account was created but no church support account and the provisioning account still exists.

This is an important point. As far as I know, the provisioning tool is used for many types of PC "roles" within the church, with "Clerk Computer" being just one of those. With your choice of "Clerk Computer" only a select number of apps will be installed on the PC. It's normal to see some disabled following an install. (Of course, it's NOT normal for it to hang and not complete.)

I've got some PC's coming, so I'll be able to test the provisioning tool myself shortly and report on my success/failure.

I'm having the same issues. I experienced very similar to what you shared in the screenshot except the Church Support Account is missing too.

Please update the forum if you her any updates or have further advice perhaps from Global Services.

I tried again today and reset the new computer following these instructions https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... _Computers

The steps are for Windows 10 but were similar enough. After the computer was completely reset, I followed the same outdated steps from the tech wiki https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... k_Computer and I paid particular attention to step 5 "clicking Continue Anyway as soon as it appears". That seemed to do the trick and the computer seemed to set up well this time.
