Received spam thru Maps Services

Post by cclinton »

Who do I notify when spam is received thru the Church Maps Services?

I am the Bishop of a YSA ward and receive random emails from incoming members. I am used to this so did not think twice about a message asking if email was the best way to contact me. I replied that yes, it was a good way to contact me.
This followed a day later with another email from the same person. This second email was the typical "i live in a foreign land, I am dying, and want to donate my money to someone who can use it for charity. Do this and X percent is yours". The only contact details are the person's name and the email address. No additional verifications or explanations as to why they would contact me in particular. So, yes...very spammy...
I assume that someone would need to have a church account to access the MAPS Services and send a message using that service.
So I am hoping I can find the appropriate person to forward this message so it can be stopped.

By "Maps Service," I assume you mean from Maps.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
What do you see that indicates it comes through the Church's system, instead of a spammer emailing you directly?

Why do I assume this comes through the church system? The header details are the same as those that have come with legit messages:

MESSAGE FOR: Bishop Clinton
PRIMARY CONTACT AT: Madison YSA Ward (387606)
SENDER: [Name and email address removed. This is a public forum.]
FROM SITE: https://maps.churchofjesuschrist.org/wards/387606

And the links are legit, not text with a hidden link to another site.

Per this thread: https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/fo ... m&start=10 recipients should contact the Global Services Center so they can pass it on for review.

I don't think an account or login is required to contact a bishop via the Directory and Maps page. The bishop's email address is hidden, but the link works to send a message when not signed in.

Thank you for sharing. Now I just need to determine how to contact the global services center.
